After a heavy down pour in the morning the weather cleared to leave a wet course for a new record field of 49 runners, setting off from the Powis Arms. 39 minutes & 30 seconds later Russell Adams of Ludlow Runners crossed the line first to set a new course record, followed a minnute later by Jamie Shingler (40.29) in 2nd place and last years winner Simon Norwood MV40 in 3rd (4o.47 just 1 second slower than last year) First junior U18 home in 4th place was Guy Gregory, Ludlow Runners, (41.43 junior CR*) First U16 junior home and in 5th place overall was Arthur Charlesworth (42.16 U16 junior CR*) of Wenlock Olympians. 6th overall and first MV50 was (Chris Penny 42.41 MV50 CR*) Val Swingler LV40 in 44.26 set a new ladies course record.
An interesting note is that the four previous winners of this event all took part this year.
After the last runner in, the future stars of the sport had their fun run, another record field of 7 fun runners. Chloe Williams took first place, first boy home was Ben Norwood.
Thanks to our sponsors, Marches Outdoors of Ludlow who supplied goody bags and prizes (pay attention! there is an outdoors shop in Ludlow) The Little Round Cake Company (Supplied winners cakes and individual cakes to each finisher) Montgomeryshire Water for the water, and Lydbury North Village Shop for the veterans prizes. And of course Gerry and Sandra McClaren of the Powis Arms for our venue!!
The race raised £240 for the County Air Ambulance, another record for this event.
Thanks to the runners for attending, the marshals for their invaluable help, landowners and farmers for allowing us to cross their land.
Next years event will be Sunday 30th September. we look forward to seeing you then.
